Things to do on Heroes’ Square

Suitable for cultural attractions, this whole sqaure. The Andrassy road going along we get to the #Heroes’ Square. The tourists never miss this visit in #Budapest.  Two famous #museums are nearby. One of them is the  Museum of Fine Arts and the other is Kunsthalle (Hall of Art). The Millenium Underground station (M1) is also located around the square. The topmost political events played on this square, so it’s an important part in contemporary Hungarian history.

Heroes’ Square historical overview

Directly behind the cenotaph is a column topped by a statue of the archangel Gabriel. In his right hand the angel holds the Holy Crown of St. Stephen (Istvan), the first king of Hungary. In his left hand the angel holds a two barred apostolic cross, a symbol awarded to St. Stephen by the Pope in recognition of his efforts to convert Hungary to Christianity.

The central feature of Heroes’ Square, as well as a landmark of Budapest, is the Millennium Memorial. The construction of this square are began in 1986. It completed in 1900 and was part of a much larger construction project which also included the expansion and refurbishing of Andrassy road and the construction of underground.
